Treasury Buys Back $4 Billion in Bonds
The US Treasury bought back $4 billion of Treasury notes and bonds maturing 2026-2028 ($SHY) on November 5, filling the maximum it had set for the operation, according to the results published on TreasuryDirect. Offers totaled $47.319 billion, 11.8x the amount accepted, and Treasury took bonds in 4 of the 65 eligible issues, maturing between 2026 and 2028. The operation settles on November 6. Buybacks are paid from the Treasury's cash account, so they put money back into the banking system.
