Methodology
Methodology
Sources
- Where an official source exists, we use it: the Federal Reserve (FRED), the US Treasury and central banks, the SEC and the exchanges.
- Live prices come from market data providers.
- Pages name their source next to the number or at the bottom.
Timing
- Every price shows its time: “as of 2:19 pm ET” while the market is open and “Oct 30 close” when it is shut.
- Futures and crypto trade almost all the time, so they always show a time.
Economy thermometers (/fred)
- Each tab scores 1 to 10. 10 is healthy and 1 is alert.
- The score compares each indicator with its own history, not with an opinion.
- When the same risk is measured twice, the worse one counts.
Checks
Every day, automated scripts compare what the site shows with the original source:
- year-to-date prices;
- bonds;
- liquidity;
- the thermometers.

What we don't do
- We never fill a missing number with a made-up one: no data means “—” or no row.
- We don't round to make a number look better.
