CFTC Clears First US Stock Perpetual Futures
The CFTC approved perpetual futures on individual US stocks for the first time, with Chair Michael Selig signing off on Tuesday. The move lets exchanges list stock derivatives that never expire and trade around the clock, extending a framework first built for bitcoin perpetuals. Coinbase ($COIN) has filed to list more than 50 single-stock perpetuals, while Kalshi set a narrower bar, requiring underlying stocks to carry at least $100 billion in market capitalization and $450 million in average daily trading value over six months.
