FOREIGN TREASURY HOLDINGS HIT RECORD $9.25 TRILLION
Foreign holders of US Treasury securities pushed their combined stake to $9.25 trillion in August, the highest level in Treasury Department data going back through January 2025. Canada drove the move, lifting its holdings 16% in a single month to $443.8 billion, far outpacing the 1.5% rise in the overall total. Japan stayed the largest holder at $1.18 trillion and China's stake barely moved near $700 billion, undercutting talk of a broad foreign retreat from $TLT and US debt.
