OCC FINALIZES FIRST GENIUS ACT STABLECOIN RULE
The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency became the first U.S. regulator to finalize a rule under the GENIUS Act, setting reserve, redemption and custody standards for payment stablecoin issuers. The rule takes effect January 18, 2027, three months after the law's original one-year deadline of July 18, 2026 passed without action. Banks and nonbanks seeking to issue stablecoins, including Circle ($CRCL), now have a federal path while the Fed and the FDIC still haven't finished their own pieces of the law.
