GOOGLE CUTS QUANTUM ERROR RATE 40-FOLD
Google Quantum AI's Willow chip generated magic states with a record 99.99% logical fidelity, cutting errors 40-fold versus previous methods, according to a paper published in Science on October 15. For two decades, distillation techniques needed up to 95% of a quantum computer's total qubit capacity just to produce those states reliably enough for fault-tolerant computing. Alphabet's $GOOGL quantum unit says its new "magic state cultivation" approach breaks that bottleneck without the resource drain.
