US HOME SELLERS OUTNUMBER BUYERS BY RECORD 62.6%
US home sellers climbed to 1,510,784 in September, the highest count since March 2020, according to Redfin. Active homebuyers fell to 928,892 in the same month, the lowest level in Redfin's data going back to 2013. That leaves sellers outnumbering buyers by 62.6%, the widest gap on record and the fourth consecutive month to set a new high. The imbalance looks like a buyer's strike, not a supply glut: elevated mortgage rates and economic caution are keeping shoppers out even as listings pile up. Homebuilder stocks tracked by $XHB are left navigating a market where sellers increasingly compete for scarce demand.
